Testimonials: Frank 2008

Testimony of Frank,

The Bible tells me it is God who draws me closer to Him. And, it was Jesus who taught us to pray, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” God brought me here, to Columbus, to the “Rescue Mission” because it was His will; I firmly believe He wanted me here.

On my pedal bike, last April, journeying to South Dakota. I was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant of failure to appear on an assault charge from Colfax county. Stopped dead in my tracks. I pled guilty and subsequently was sentenced to 45 days in jail, in Platte county jail. No money, no home, now; no travel means I asked about the chance of Columbus having an emergency shelter. I was informed about the Columbus Mission; where I would be allowed to work, eat and sleep there, if , I abided by their regulations. What choice did I have? And, what a blessing it has turned into being.

Over 25 years ago, I gave, or I thought, but I know, I recognized the need for me to accept Jesus Christ into my life as my Savior. Little did I know what it entailed. I do know, that my activities at that time which were so much fun were no longer joyful and I was in a battle. God wanted me all to Himself; the devil wanted me back. And I knew serving both was not an option. My life has been littered with addictions to cocaine, alcohol, and women. I do good for six months and then my self-destructive sinful nature unravels all my efforts in a matter of days.

Since I can remember, all I’ve done is move around the country. Never staying put for any extended period of time. Still engulfed in the sinful life. Miserable. Broke most of the time. Unhappy, and never a moments peace. I could probably be categorized as a chronic homeless person. Wondering if my life was heading anywhere. Having all the answers yet I still wallowed in self-destruction, when all the right answers were in God’s own word.

This ministry at the Mission ahs given to me just what God wills for me. That Jesus loves me! He wants to see me successfully become what He wants me to be. Thru the steadfast understanding of His will for me in a life of obedience and humbleness. It is humbling realizing it is God in control, not me. Thru His grace (free) comes many blessings, and understanding that nothing, absolutely nothing is because of me. Only; one thing, my sin. My job, the money I make, the food I eat, the roof over my head, my health, talents, personality, strength, smarts, etc., etc., etc. is all because of Him. Realizing this and living each day in thankfulness has changed my life. Oh, what a joy to say, that I love God, my friend Jesus, and the presence of His Holy Spirit; to guide me mold me, protect me, and to pray for me when I know not how.

I have much the same story as many others. God gave me more than He has others, for which I was responsible for and fell short of accomplishing miserably. A chance to play collegiate football on scholarship, good health and good mind, quick wit, and not bad looking, sometimes a pleasure to be around, but yet a sinner. In knowing His salvation, turning from my sin, my life has dramatically changed.

Everyday as I go on with my daily activities I pray that I am a beacon, an example to others. That the Spirit which moves in me produces the fruit others may see, and my God will be glorified. Amen. It is an honor to be a testimony of the wonderful things God has done for me. Continuing each and everyday. Thru the Columbus Mission, I continue to grow daily. Their support and help in guiding and nurturing my spiritual life has been a blessing. Thank you. Thank you Jesus for paying the price I deserved for my sins.

Frank.
